Dr Wadhwani serves as education officer for the British Society for Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology, where he designed and delivers national specialist training. He also represents the Royal College of Radiologists and the Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy within its quality and training committee. He is an advisory editor for the medical journal Clinical Radiology. He lectures regularly within regional, national and international conferences and programmes.

His current research focus is on sleep and breathing in children with asthma and sleep patterns in babies.

He is the founder of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital, London, and one of the pioneers of 'mobile intensive care', a system for transport of seriously-ill children. Professor Habibi was one of 400 people invited to the Millennium Celebration of Achievement Luncheon, in the presence of Her Majesty, The Queen.

Professor Habibi is also the trustee and co-founder of charity COSMIC (Children of St. Mary’s Intensive Care), which was instrumental in the set up of St. Mary's specialist intensive care unit for children and provides ongoing support for families, research projects and training and education. He actively fundraises for COSMIC and did a sponsored swim across the English Channel in 2016 to raise money for the £10 million rebuild of the unit.

Professor Habibi is a clinical academic and is also an examiner for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. His research has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals and is an elected member of the Family Justice Council and a fellow of the the Royal College Of Physicians and the Royal College Of Paediatrics and Child Health since 1994 and 1998 respectively.
